Of the estimated 55 million people in the United States with disabilities, 73% are heads of households, 58% own homes and 48% are principal shoppers controlling over $220 billion in discretionary income. A 2006 survey commissioned by the American Association of People with Disabilities and conducted by Public Opinion Research Inc., revealed that more than 70% of the association’s members choose to shop with retailers that demonstrate their support for people with disabilities. – http://www.realeconomicimpact.org
